UIM Resident Aesthetic Research Mentorship Award
The WDS Underrepresented in Medicine (UIM) Resident Aesthetic Research Mentorship Program is designed to enhance the knowledge and education of UIM dermatology residents in aesthetic and procedural dermatology through mentorship with a leader in this subspecialty.
Purpose of Award
The purpose of the award is to develop mentoring relationships that might not otherwise be possible due to distance or funding availability. Along with mentorship, the program is designed for successful execution and completion of a research-based project that should be appropriate for publication and/or presentation at a professional dermatology meeting.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be a dermatology resident in the U.S.
- Must be a current or pending members of WDS
- Must be identified as belonging to an underrepresented in medicine group, defined by the AAMC as follows: Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, and Native American (American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander).
- Must be in good standing at their academic institution
- Must complete all applicant forms and submit supporting materials
- Must submit an interval report halfway through the project and a final report six months after notification
Application Timeline
- Rotation Time Frame: Awardees will be given six months to complete their mentorship experience and research project.
- Application Deadline: Applications have closed for the 2025 cycle.
- Anticipated Notification Date: Notifications have been completed for the 2025 cycle.

- Letter of Support from Faculty Physician (Dean of Students, Program Director, Department Chair, Medical Faculty, etc.)
- Letter of Support from Personal or Career Mentor (does not have to be the person who will serve as your mentor for this program)
- Statement of Intent from Proposed Mentor
Funding Requirements
Awardees will be required to submit a standardized summary statement of their experience as well as receipts in order to receive their award funds. The award funds will be provided upon completion of the experience. Tips for a Successfully Funded Mentorship Application.
